Emil Leon Post - Early work

Mathematician and logician, born in Augustow, Poland. Emigrating to the USA as a child, he lost his left arm (age 12) and rejected a career in astronomy. He did pioneering work in proof theory and multivalued logics and was co-founder of the theory of recursive functions. He was a founding member of the Association for Symbolic Logic.
