Elohim - Hebrew grammar, Significance in the documentary hypothesis, Etymology, Elohim in Islam, Elohim in Mormonism

plural divine

A divine name for the God of Israel, the plural form here being purged of its polytheistic meaning, and used as a plural of majesty. There are over 2500 occurrences in the Hebrew Bible, making it one of the most common divine names therein, but it could still be applied to other gods, angels, or even figures such as Moses.
