Music in which the sound is generated by electronic instruments (especially synthesizers), processed by means of tape recorders heard through loudspeakers. Influential studios include those at Cologne (West German Radio), Brussels (Studio de Musique Électronique), Paris (Institut de Recherche et de Coordination Acoustique/Musique), and the Columbia–Princeton Center in New York City.
