Shane (Elizabeth) Gould

Swimmer, born in Brisbane, Queensland, NE Australia. She created Olympic history by being the first and only woman to win three individual gold swimming medals in world record time. She won the World Trophy (Helms) Medal in 1971. In 1972 she held every swimming record from 100 m to 1500 m, and in the same year gave the greatest performance of any Australian at a single Olympics in Munich. She retired in 1973, at the age of 17.
