nerve growth factor (NGF) - Mechanism of action for NGF

A biologically active peptide found widely (eg in the eye, heart, salivary glands, vas deferens) in many animals, including humans. It controls the growth and development of sympathetic nervous tissue and some sensory neurones. It is classified as a hormone by some authorities.
