National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) - Locations

The principal radio astronomy observatory of the USA, with powerful telescopes at Green Bank, WV; Kitt Peak, AZ; and Socorro, NM (Very Large Array), and headquarters at Charlottesville, VA. The NRAO was established in the mid-1950s and acquired its first operational radio telescope in 1959. Instruments at Green Bank include a 100×110 m dish, the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope, completed in 1999.
