Leslie (Cornelius) Arends - House Leadership


US representative, born in Melvin, Illinois, USA. He studied at Oberlin College, and was a World War 1 navy veteran. He worked for the county farm bureau before going to the US House of Representatives (Republican, Illinois, 1935–74), and was minority whip (1939–53) and majority leader (1957–63).
