Leo Baxendale

Strip cartoonist, born in Lancashire, NW England, UK. He first worked as a label designer, and later joined the Lancashire Evening Post (1950). He began to freelance strips to the Beano comic, beginning with Little Plum (1953), followed by Minnie the Minx (1953) and The Bash Street Kids. He designed the new weekly comic Wham (1964), and despite leaving the field in 1974 remains the most imitated artist in British comics.
