Golfer, born in Dallas, Texas, USA. He won his first US Open in 1968, and in 1971 established a golfing record by winning three Open championships (US, Canadian, British) in the same year, retaining his British title the following year. In 1975, while playing in the Western Open, he had a remarkable escape from death when he was struck by lightning. In 1984, he won the PGA Championship at the age of 44. A shrewd match commentator, he continues to earn a living on the Seniors circuit.
